The Vandalia City Council heard further discussion at Monday’s meeting on the funding and potential plans for the new Water Treatment Plant.
Lee Beckman of Milano and Grunloh Engineering was on hand for the meeting to discuss the funding for the project a bit further. This past week, a bid opening was held for the project. Beckman went through the City’s funding for the project which includes a total of 8.939 million dollars in grants from Rural Development, the IEPA and Rebuild Illinois. The funding also includes loans totaling 15.16 million dollars from Rural Development and the IEPA. That gives the City total project funding just over 24 million dollars. Beckman says the total project costs–including the raw water main and pressure reducing station–would actually take the total cost of the project over the amount the city currently has funding for. So, Beckman presented the City Council with an idea to get the extra needed funding for the project.
And, Beckman says the next question would be how important would a couple of other parts would be for the overall project.
It was pointed out the current intake for the river has not worked for quite some time, and has been a constant issue for many years.
No decisions were made at Monday’s meeting. Mayor Rick Gottman says the City Council will be scheduling a special meeting in the near future to further discuss the project and go over the bids that were opened this past week.
