Closing arguments are set to begin Wednesday at the bribery and racketeering trial of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan in Chicago.
Madigan and codefendant Michael McClain are facing 23 counts of corruption in a trial which began with jury selection on October 8th.
Chicago attorney Sam Adam Jr. represented Rod Blagojevich in the former Illinois governor’s first corruption trial in 2010. Adam says prosecutors have to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Collins prosecuted former Governor George Ryan’s case in 2005 and 2006.
Judge John Robert Blakey is expected to have more than 100 pages of jury instructions before deliberations begin.
