(Springfield, IL) — Governor Pritzker is planning to sign a bill that would take guns out of the hands of accused domestic abusers in Illinois.
The state House passed Karina’s Bill this week, sending the measure to the governor’s desk. The measure would require law enforcement to confiscate guns within 96 hours from people who have an order of protection granted against them. The law is named after Karina Gonzalez. The Chicago woman and her teenage daughter were shot and killed by her husband in 2023, shortly after she filed for an emergency restraining order against him.
