St. Elmo-Brownstown boys basketball came back from their almost two week break and lost a tough battle to Okaw Valley, 64 to 56, at home on Friday night. The Timberwolves came in to the game fresh off of a 4-1 showing at the Vandalia Holiday Tournament where they surprised people as the #10 seed who finished in third place while the Eagles were looking to bounce back from a fourth place finish in their own St. Elmo Holiday Tournament. The first quarter would be a tight one with the two teams matching each other and Okaw Valley taking a very slim 16-15 lead over the Eagles at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter would play out much like the first as the two teams stayed close with SEB just slightly being outscored 11-9 in the quarter as they would trail 27-24 at halftime. The Eagles would put up 15 points in the third quarter, but they were unable to hold the Timberwolves as they put up 23 points and pushed their lead over SEB to 11 points, 50-39, heading into the fourth. The Eagles put up a big fight, coming back and outscoring Okaw Valley 17-14 in the final eight minutes, but it would not be enough as SEB fell short in the 64-56 loss. The Eagles drop to 6-7 on the season but will have a quick turnaround to get back on the court as they will be at Grayville today with action getting started at 3:00pm.
