The Brownstown-St. Elmo Lady Bombers basketball team have won their second Dieterich Girls Holiday Tournament Championship after beating Marshall 44 to 26 in the title game on Saturday night. After some early turnovers by each team, BSE had some good looks at the basket but couldn’t get several shots to fall which allowed the Lady Lions to hang with the Lady Bombers and the teams were tied at 9-9 at the end of the quarter. BSE was able to get some momentum in the second as a pair of timely three pointers from Dayana Haslett and Addie Sasse and six points from Madi Miller led a 16-9 Bombers run for a 25-18 halftime lead. Offense was hard to come by for both teams in the third quarter as BSE was held to three points on three made free throws and the Bombers remained ahead 28-21 at the end of the third quarter. The offensive tide turned for BSE in the fourth quarter as Haslett caught fire for 12 points and the Bombers defense held Marshall to just five points in the quarter as BSE pulled away for the 44-26 win. The Lady Bombers are now 16-2 on the season and will be off for the next week before returning to the court on January 6 when they host Vandalia.
At the completion of the Championship game, the All-Tournament Team was announced with BSE’s Dayana Haslett being named to the team. Haslett would average 26.75 points a game in the tournament with 107 points across four games.
