The City of Vandalia has approved a solar ordinance that will give them some more flexibility going forward.
At their December 16th meeting–the final meeting of 2024–the Vandalia City Council approved their long-discussed solar ordinance. The ordinance was approved by a vote of 6 to 2 with no votes from Aldermen Steve Barker and Kenny Lewey. Barker stated he was voting No because of the large solar farms this would allow in the City of Vandalia, and Lewey voted No saying it was for the same reason. But, City Attorney Ryan Connor says the ordinance will give them some flexibility on such things as the project would need a special use permit.
Audio PlayerConnor pointed out that because of state law you cannot put in place a blanket prohibition on wind and solar.
