At their meeting on Monday, the Vandalia City Council ultimately approved 25% in TIF funds for the new Daylight Donuts location.
Daylight Donuts met with the TIF Advisory Committee this past week for their project for some rehab work on their soon-to-be Vandalia location at 1611 Veteran’s Avenue Suite E in Vandalia. The total cost of the project is $16,126.48. The owners were asking for 50% in TIF funds for the project. But, the TIF Advisory Committee recommended 25%, or $4,031.62, to the City Council.
At Monday’s meeting, after hearing from the Daylight Donuts owner, Alderman Steve Barker recommended going up to 50% that was requested.
But, that amount hit a roadblock with Alderman Russ Stunkel eventually cast the no vote that sent the matter to defeat. The council then approved 25% in TIF funds with comments from Aldermen Bob Bowen and Barker.
On the 50%, Barker, Kenny Lewey and Bowen voted yes with Aldermen Stunkel, Ken Hubler, Andy Lester and Bret Brosman voting No.
As for Daylight Donuts in Vandalia, work should begin now any day on the work needed and the opening would not be that long away. The owner did say that for at least a while they will bring the donuts from Effingham each day for sale at the Vandalia location as they do not yet have all the equipment needed at this time.
