The new Veteran’s Memorial Park in downtown Vandalia was officially dedicated on Veteran’s Day.
A large crowd turned out for the park’s official opening with the stones of the military branches and the stones with the names of the Fayette County Veterans and the American flag and the military flags were all raised during the ceremony. Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman says there is more to come, including a mural of Abraham Lincoln on the wall next to the park.
State Senator Jason Plummer says this park will serve as a lasting dedication to the area’s Veterans and thanked all those who made it happen.
And, State Representative Blaine Wilhour talked about the sacrifice made by our nation’s Veterans.
The weather turned out perfect for the ceremony as a much bigger than expected crowned turned out–many just standing on Gallatin Street to watch the ceremony.
