(Springfield, IL) — A man found guilty but mentally ill in the killing of an Illinois child welfare worker at a home outside Springfield will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Benjamin Reed was sentenced to 100 years in prison for the murder of Deidre Silas in January 2022. Authorities say he stabbed Silas to death while she was checking on six children in a home in Thayer. Reed isn’t eligible for parole.
