During the COVID-19 pandemic, many landlords were unable to evict non-paying tenants, and now the eviction process in Illinois is changing. With Federal COVID relief tax funds covering rental assistance now depleted, the Illinois General Assembly approved $75 million in emergency rental assistance. Peter Selke with the Illinois Housing Development Authority said the funding is not intended to benefit just the tenants.
Federal program funding for the Illinois Housing Development Authority’s court-based rental assistance program expired June 30th.
