The Vandalia City Council at their meeting on Monday heard a first reading for Liquor and Gaming Licenses for a new potential restaurant.
The applications were from Rebetha Mae Ramirez Llano doing business as Max’s Family Diner. During the meeting, they spoke of their plans to locate in the former locations of Huddle House and Embers on Mattes Avenue in Vandalia. They said their restaurant would be a diner and would have all day breakfast. Alderman Kenny Lewey did question the need to apply for gaming at this time. But, Mayor Rick Gottman explained why both are done at the same time.
Audio PlayerThis is the 2nd potential restaurant for that location this year. Back in February, Don Schomaker of Germantown came before the City Council asking for Liquor and Gaming Licenses and was planning to open two restaurants in the location. And, both licenses were approved. But, Mayor Gottman said during Monday’s meeting that the deal with Schomaker fell through and property owner Mike Wehrle was able to find the new folks to operate a restaurant in the location. As for the applicants, Mayor Gottman said they already operate a restaurant in the Mattoon area and it was also pointed out they plan to relocate to Vandalia. Monday was just a first reading for the license, so action on the licenses would likely be taken at the June 17th meeting.
