Jim R. Bowen, 84, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2024, at his home in Vandalia, IL, after a short illness.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, May 13, 2024, at Bethel Baptist Church, Vandalia, IL with Dr. Ben Foxworth and Pastor Joe Lawson officiating. Private burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery, Rural Fillmore, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the service time at 11:00 AM on Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to Indiana University Cancer Research Center. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, is in charge of arrangements. He was born December 14, 1939, in St. Elmo, IL, the son of Earl Clifford “Rip” & Evea Mae (Owens) Bowen. He married Catherine Pettie on September 9, 1961. He worked for a total of 32 years at D.B. Drug Co., St. Louis, MO and JM Jones Co., Champaign, IL. He enjoyed coaching little league, pony league baseball, and girls’ softball through his children’s growing up years. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and a deacon.
He is survived by: Wife – Catherine Bowen, Vandalia, IL; Sons – Steve Bowen, Springfield, MO and Quinn Bowen & Lori, Vandalia, IL; Daughter – Cathy Jones & Dave, Vandalia, IL; Grandchildren – Stephanie Cronin & Ryan, Bailey Poe & Connor, Jake Bowen & Elizabeth, Cassidy McGaughey & Bryce, James Bowen, and Quincy Bowen; Great Grand Child – Stevie Jo Cronin & two on the way.
Preceded in death by: Parents; Infant Brother – Bobby Bowen.
