Brownstown-St. Elmo track’s junior hurdler Katie Berner and the 4×200 relay team have both qualified for the IHSA 1A Girls State Track Meet next week. Berner turned in a second place finish in the 100m Hurdles with a time of :17.55 coming in just 0.16 seconds behind the first place finisher to punch her ticket to State. This will be the second trip to State for Berner after she qualified for last year’s meet in the 300 Hurdles and finished 22nd. The 4×200 relay team is a first time state qualifier as the team of Berner, Cordelia Lytle, Addie Sasse and Presley Williams finished second with a time of 1:52.30 to finish 2.23 seconds ahead of the third place finisher of Altamont and coming in behind first place Newton who ran a 1:50.44.
Berner and the 4×200 relay team will compete in the IHSA 1A Girls State Track Prelims on Thursday, May 16 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Running events will begin at 12:00pm and go with a rolling schedule. The top 9 preliminary round finishers in both the 100m Hurdles and the 4×200 will advance to Saturday’s State Finals.
