Michelle L. Miller, 44, of rural Altamont, passed away unexpectedly on May 6, 2024 leaving a community devastated by the loss of such a loving and kind-hearted individual.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Altamont. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, May 10th at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont and for one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Michelle was born on Monday, October 8, 1979 in Mattoon, IL to Ron and Judy (Mercier) Koester. She married Michael Miller on August 30, 1997 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Altamont where she remained a member. Michelle was a dedicated bus driver for Altamont Community School District and brought joy to everyone she interacted with. Her positivity and ability to see the best in others made her easy to love and cherish. She had been looking forward to her daughter, Kara’s upcoming wedding in June and the arrival of her first grandchild in July from Kayla and J.J. Michelle’s legacy of love and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
She is survived by: her husband of over 26 years, Michael Miller of Altamont; daughters, Kayla (J.J.) Kortte of Altamont and Kara (Brandon Milligan) Miller of Shelbyville; brother, Jason (Sherena) Koester of Altamont; sister, Angela (Jacob) Shewmake of Altamont; parents, Ron and Judy Koester of Altamont; brothers-in-law, Josh (Amanda) Miller of Altamont and Brad (Amy) Miller of Altamont; mother-in-law, Vickie Miller of Altamont; father-in-law, Cliff (Saundy) Miller of Effingham; nieces and nephews, whom referred to her as Aunt ‘Chelle; Kingston and Kysson Koester, Drew and Everly Shewmake, Destiny (Jared) Wimberly, Aaron, Jordan, Cody, McKenzy, Carter, and Ryker Miller; many aunts, uncles and cousins and a much anticipated grandson in July.
Michelle was preceded in death by: her maternal grandparents, Omer and Lorraine Mercier; paternal grandparents, Wayne and Dorothy Koester; grandparents-in-law, Lawrence and Merita Tegenkamp and Helen and Leonard Miller.
