Altamont baseball had a late addition to their schedule Monday, falling to Father McGivney at Gordon Moore Park in Alton, 15-7. The Indians were able to put two baserunners on in the top of the first inning, but would be held scoreless and found themselves down 4-0 after an inning of play. After a scoreless second, Altamont would again put a pair of baserunners on with two outs, but a foul pop out ended the threat and the Indians saw their deficit be edged out to five runs in the bottom of the third as the Griffins added on a run in the third for a 5-0 lead. A 1, 2, 3 top of the fourth would continue to hold Altamont scoreless and they would find themselves trailing 9-0 after Father McGivney put four more runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Altamont would finally break into the scoring column in the top of the fifth inning After a leadoff walk from Clayton Arnold and Kaidyn Miller being hot by a pitch, runners would be at first and second with Kaden Davis at the plate. Arnold and K. Miller advanced to third and second on a wild pitch before Davis reached base on an error and both baserunners came in to score as Altamont cut the Griffins lead down to 9-2. A pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth push Father McGivney’s lead back to nine runs, 11-2. The Indians would see their best offensive inning in the sixth as with one out, Ethan Robbins singled and Eli Miller was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. After their second out of the inning, Riley Berg drew a walk to load the bases and then K. Miller stepped to the plate and belted a grand slam home run over the left field fence as Altamont drew within five runs, 11-6. Davis would reach base on a single but was stranded to end the inning. Father McGivney would have an answer for the Indians, putting up four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth as their lead was pushed back out to nine runs, 15-6. Altamont scored their final run of the game in the top of the seventh as Dillan Elam drew a lead-off walk and was brought in to score on a double to right field by Keegan Schultz. The Indians would get another baserunner on in the inning, but both were stranded to end the game as Altamont suffered the 15-6 loss.
