Vandalia baseball bounced back from a Friday loss in conference action by getting two wins on Saturday in their home round robin over Central A&M and Nokomis. In their first game of the day, the Vandals got their scoring started early as Central A&M got one run in during the top of the first inning and Vandalia answered with a pair of runs on a RBI flyout by Carson Lotz and a run scored by Andrew Kelly after an error following his triple to center field allowed him to score as the Vandals took a 2-1 lead. After a scoreless second, things really got rolling for the Vandals in the third as two hit by pitch and a single loaded the bases up for Carson Lotz who drew a walk to bring in a run followed by Kelly hitting a single to left field to score two and push the Vandals lead to 5-1. A single from Kohner Depew would bring in Lotz and a single from Qwentyn Stombaugh scores Depew for a 8-1 lead. A single from Chase Cearlock to score Stombaugh wrapped up the innings scoring with Vandalia out ahead 9-1. Depew earned two more RBI in the bottom of the fourth as he hit a line drive ingle to center field to score a pair of runs and again push the Vandals lead out to 11-1. The Raiders slightly chipped away at the Vandals lead with three runs in the top of the fifth to cut it to 11-4, but three runs by Vandalia in the bottom of the sixth closed out the 14-4 win.
In game two on the day the Vandals would again trail 1-0 early, as Nokomis put one run on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning. The bottom of the third would be the big offensive inning as two of the first three batters would walk to put runners at first and second before a line drive single from Kale Konrad brought in a run to tie the game at 1-1 and that would immediately be followed by a single from Jack Lewis to give Vandalia a 2-1 lead and a sacrifice fly from Lotz scored another run to edge the lead out to 3-1. With two outs, Vandalia tacked on one more run on a RBI single from Depew as the Vandals would lead 4-1. Depew added another RBI on a ground ball single to score Lewis to get the Vandals lead up to 5-1. In the next inning, the bottom of the sixth, Lewis singled to score Cearlock and the Vandals lead got up to 6-1. Nokomis tried to put together a seventh inning comeback and tacked on two runs to close the Vandals lead to 6-3, but that is all they would get as Vandalia closed out the win. Vandalia improves to 7-4 on the season and returns to action today at Lincolnwood.
