In a rematch from their tournament game at the Dieterich Holiday Tournament just one month ago which was a win for the Cougars, South Central and Dieterich again battled to a finish that found the teams eight points apart, this time with the Cougars falling to the Maroons 73-65 in overtime in National Trail Conference action on Thursday night. Taegen Webster with five points and Brooke Cowger and Percilla Reid with four points each in the first quarter got South Central out to a slim 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. Another seven from Webster and five points from Lauren Johnson helped the Cougars edge their lead to 27-25 at halftime. Dieterich would come out just a bit stronger than the Cougars in the third quarter, outscoring South Central 15-9 and taking a 40-36 lead to start the fourth quarter. South Central would come back and go on a 21-17 run throughout the fourth quarter as Kaitlyn Swift would catch fire for three 3-pointers in the quarter and Webster dropped another seven points and the game would be tied up 57-57 at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime. Dieterich was able to pull ahead of South Central and hit four free throws down the stretch as the Cougars would fall behind and suffer the tough eight point loss, 73-65. South Central falls to 11-15 overall and 1-7 in the NTC. They will have the weekend off before traveling to Red Hill on Monday.
