St. Elmo-Brownstown basketball senior Adam Atwood is officially the newest member of St. Elmo-Brownstown basketball’s and Brownstown High School’s 1,000 Point Club, surpassing the milestone during SEB’s quarterfinal win over North Clay at the National Trail Conference Tournament on Wednesday night. Atwood entered the game needing 17 points to reach the mark and after hitting for six points in the first half, Atwood would hit a couple quick buckets early in the second half. He would need just four points as the fourth quarter got underway and after getting to the basket for an early basket to cut his pursuit down to two points, Atwood would find himself open down in the right corner and would hit the three-pointer to give himself 1,001 career points. After tacking on another five points in the game, Atwood finished the night standing at 1,006 career points. Coming into the game, Atwood says he felt a bit of nerves but mainly felt excited.
After finding himself open with the chance to hit the three to push him to and past the 1,000 point threshold, Atwood said he felt it was going in as soon as he released the ball.
Having now reached the mark, Atwood says he gives credit to his parents and the team and coaches around him for getting him to that point.
Atwood still has nine regular season games as well as the IHSA postseason to add on to his overall point total. As for now though, Atwood says the only thing on his mind is going against the Class 1A #1 state ranked St. Anthony Bulldogs who Atwood and his teammates want some revenge against after falling to the Bulldogs earlier this year for one of their just three losses on the season.
