A major fire in the early Sunday morning hours did damage to buildings in downtown St. Peter.
The fire was in the 100 block of 3rd Street and did damage to multiple buildings but firefighters were able to save 2 buildings. Along with the St. Peter Fire Department, firefighters from Fayette, Effingham and Marion Counties were on hand and fought the blaze for 10 hours. Also on the scene of the fire was the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Fayette County EMA and Red Cross. The other major issue was the fire knocked out power to a good amount of the St. Peter area during the sub zero temperatures. There were no injuries reports from the blaze and the fire is currently under investigation.
