Altamont senior basketball standout Grace Nelson made it official during National Signing Day on Wednesday, signing her letter of intent to attend school and play basketball at Illinois State University. After announcing her commitment to ISU and Redbird Basketball at the end of February, the ACHS all-time leading scorer was able to ink her letter on the first day of the early signing period for Division I basketball. When talking about what made her choose ISU over the numerous other schools recruiting her, Nelson says the coaching staff was a big part of her decision, even more so after the commitment and support they showed her after her junior season ended with an ACL injury.
Nelson enters the 2023-2024 season having already earned the title of all-tine leading scorer at ACHS and stands at 1,796 career points. She has set new goals for her senior season and having her college decision made and her official signing done, Nelson says it will allow her to focus more on just playing the game.
Nelson will join an ISU program that went 24-9 in the 2022-2023 season and received an invite to the Women’s NIT where they fell in the first round to Missouri and went 19-14 the prior season, winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament and earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament where they fell in the first round to #2 seed Iowa.
