Charles W. “Sonny” Conner, 89, of Mulberry Grove, IL, passed away at 3:45 AM, Thursday, October 19, 2023 at SBL Fayette County Hospital LTC.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia with Rev. Pete LeDuc officiating. Interment will follow in the Mulberry Grove Cemetery, Mulberry Grove, IL with Military Rites accorded at the graveside by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia & Brownstown VFW Post #9770. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM, Tuesday, at the funeral home. Charles Wayne Conner was born on May 17, 1934 in Pittsburg, IL, the son of Wesley William & Anna Mae (Peddicord) Conner. Sonny spent 40 plus years with the love of his life, Joyce Ennen, though they never married.
He was a proud United States Army Veteran; serving from 1956-1958. Sonny worked in the construction industry. He helped build the Coffeen power plant and was later employed there for many years. When able, Sonny liked anything and everything outdoors; he enjoyed coon hunting, deer hunting and fishing. He also had a cheerful personality and loved rooting on his two favorite teams, the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs. Sonny was a member of the Mulberry Grove Baptist Church and the Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95, Vandalia.
He is survived by his significant other, Joyce Ennen of Mulberry Grove; aunt, June Thalman of Patoka; numerous cousins, extended family, and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents and son, Wesley Dean Conner.
