The South Central Lady Cougars went 3-2 on Saturday and finished in 2nd place at the Herrin Invite. South Central opened up play with a 25-16, 25-8 win over Cairo before beating Crab Orchard 25-10, 20-25, 15-13. That would put the Cougars in a matchup with host Herrin with the winner going to the Championship match. South Central would drop a close 19-25, 23-25 match to the Tigers which would put them into the a second semifinal match against Harrisburg who had battled their way back through the consolation bracket. After a very close first set loss, 23-25, the Cougars came back with two set wins 25-19, 15-12 to win the match and get themselves a rematch against Herrin in the Championship match. South Central would battle the Tigers tight in the first two sets 25-27, 25-23, but Herrin pulled away for a 5-15 third set win to beat the Cougars for a second time on the day. Lady Cougars senior middle blocker Emma Jenne was named a member of the All-Tournament Team.
With their 3-2 day on Saturday, South Central now stands at 17-10 on the season and will get a few days off before they begin play in the National Trail Conference Tournament later in the week at St. Anthony.
