Fayette County Sheriff Ronnie Stevens updating the public about the first week of No Cash Bail in Illinois.
Sheriff Stevens says he would like to let the citizens of Fayette County know that the Deputies and Officers from all jurisdictions are continuing to do their job day in and day out. Sheriff Stevens reports that last Monday, the first day of No Cash Bail, the Fayette County jail population was 43 detainees. And, as of Friday afternoon, the jail population is now at 29 detainees. Sheriff Stevens says that a total of 8 detainees were released as a direct result of the SAFE-T Act bill provision.
Sheriff Stevens says although disappointed to many, this will be the “new normal” in the judicial system. Sheriff Stevens says he is trying to house more federal detainees to insure a stable work environment for the men and women working in the jail.
