The South Central Junior High Softball team is headed to the IESA 1A State Softball Tournament after grabbing a 2-0 win over Paris Crestwood in the St. Elmo 1A Sectional on Saturday. After getting two runners aboard, the Falcons were able to take advantage of a Crestwood error in the top of the second inning to get their two runs across the plate and Lady Falcons pitcher Maddie Peddicord tossed a one hit shutout, striking out 15 girls in the win. South Central is now 18-2 on the season and will play in the quarterfinals of the 1A State Tournament on Friday, September 22 at 1:30pm against 24-1 Pontiac St. Mary’s. All state tournament games will be played at Champion Fields in Normal. A win in Friday’s quarterfinal game would send South Central to the semifinals against the winner of the quarterfinal game between Mazon-Verona-Kinsman and Bloomington Corpus Christi and also guarantee them a top four finish while a quarterfinal loss would bring their season to an end.
