Larry D. Baldock, 81, of Vandalia, IL, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at SBL Fayette County Hospital.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Bethel Baptist Church, rural Vandalia with Rev. Dr. Ben Foxworth officiating. Interment will follow in McInturff Cemetery, rural Vandalia. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30-11:00 AM, Saturday, at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Bethel Baptist Church, or Siteman Cancer Center. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com
Larry Dean Baldock was born April 26, 1942 in Hagarstown, IL, the son of John William and Mildred Marie (Fisher) Baldock.
Larry was a Food Supervisor for Illinois Department of Corrections, starting his career in Joliet and retiring from Vandalia Correction Center. Larry was a baseball fanatic; which he played into his 40’s. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan and began listening to their live broadcast back in 1952. Not only was he interested in baseball, but any sports; he loved basketball, football, hockey and more recently college sports. Along with his love for sports, he enjoyed writing many poems. Larry was also a devout member of Bethel Baptist Church in rural Vandalia.
He is survived by his daughter, Cathy and husband Kevin Kern of Vandalia; son, John Baldock and wife Tara of Highland; son-in-law, Randy Taylor of Brownstown; sister, Linda Kessel of Mahomet; grandchildren, Craig Kern, Kayla Ochs, Jacob Baldock, Emily Baldock, Brady Deutsch; great grandchildren, Owen Ochs, Corben Ochs, Collin Ochs, Hank Kern, Halle Kern; and special caregiver, Melissa Devall of Vandalia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Debra Taylor.
