New state law requires school districts to offer full-day kindergarten by the 2027-2028 school year

A new state law requires all school districts to offer full-day Kindergarten by the 2027-28 school year.

The legislation was championed by State Senator Kimberly Lightford, who said back in May that it gives districts plenty of time to comply.

Supporters say this gets kids off to a good start and helps working parents who may have a hard time getting daycare if their child only goes to Kindergarten for half a day.  The new law also creates a task force to study the current state of full day Kindergarten in Illinois.
