We hear again today from Fayette County Sheriff Ronnie Stevens and Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray on No Cash Bail, which is set to begin in Illinois on September 18th.
On some offenses and if an individual is believed to be a danger to themselves or others they may be held in jail. But, a court hearing will have to take place very soon after they are arrested. And, Sheriff Stevens could see that being a burden on some of his officers.
And, Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray has a prediction of something the public will see once the No Cash Bail system is in place.
But, Sheriff Stevens, Chief Ray and State’s Attorney Brenda Mathis have all said they will do all they can to keep the public safe under No Cash Bail. And, Chief Ray stated it will not be a “free for all” after September 18th. Illinois will be the first state in the nation with no cash bail in place.
