Last week, the Illinois Supreme Court officially ruled that the no cash bail provision of the SAFE-T Act will go into effect on September 18th. Originally, the provision was set to go into effect at the start of the year–but court battles led to it being held back for all these months. But, now no cash bail will soon be the law of the land in the state of Illinois. Fayette County Sheriff Ronnie Stevens says those arrested on lower level charges–even some Felony charges–will not be held in jail.
But, Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray says those that pose a danger to themselves or others can be held.
We will hear much more from Sheriff Stevens, Chief Ray and from Fayette County State’s Attorney Brenda Mathis coming up tomorrow during NewsCenter on www.vandaliaradio.com
