
The Vandalia City Council has approve an ordinance that will allow golf carts and UTV’s on city streets beginning in 2024.
At a work session on July 6th, the Vandalia City Council hammered out an ordinance for the matter. And, with just minimal changes, the ordinance was approved at Monday’s meeting by a 4 to 3 vote. Under the ordinance—–
- Golf carts and UTVs will be prohibited on Randolph Street west of Kennedy Boulevard. They will be prohibited on St. Louis Avenue from 8th Street to the west. They will also be prohibited on Kennedy Boulevard and they will be prohibited on Veteran’s Avenue. Golf carts and UTVs would be allowed on all other streets.
- Golf carts and UTVs will be allowed to cross St. Louis Avenue at Locust, Elm, Cypress and Pine Streets. They will be allowed to cross Kennedy Boulevard at Madison, Jefferson and Grandview Streets. And, they will be allowed to cross Randolph Street at 5th Street, Coles Street and Rock Island.
- You will need to get an annual permit which will cost $100. The individual will need to be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and will need to sign a waiver of liability. There will be no inspection of the golf carts or UTVs.
- UTV’s may be have a frame that is 28 inches above the ground, measured frame to pavement.
- The law is set to go into effect on January 1st
