Fayette County Freedom 12U softball came up just short of a straight run through the 12U-C division at the Trenton Booster Bash, going 5-0 before falling in the Championship game to the Celtics of Pinckneyville, 5-1, to finish as the tournament runner-up. Freedom opened up pool play on Friday evening with a 9-1 win over the Nashville Sting. They would go back Saturday and continue pool play with a 9-0 win over the Dazzlers and a 13-1 win over Clinton County XPlosion to finish 3-0 in pool play to head into the bracket as one of the top two seeds. In their first game of the single elimination championship bracket, Freedom kept rolling for a 12-5 win over the Millstadt XPlosion – Capell to move into the semifinals. The Freedom would shutout the SI Wildcats 3-0 in the first semifinal game to move into the title game against the Celtics. Freedom fell behind early in the championship game, giving up three runs in the top of the first and finding themselves down 5-0 before putting their one and only run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th inning, as they would fall 5-1. Freedom’s second place finish and 5-1 record over the weekend puts them at 17-6-3 on the season.
