It’s coming just a little under 24 hours later than originally scheduled, but the Kaskaskia College Blue Angels softball team will make their first ever appearance at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I World Series this afternoon in Oxford, Alabama. The 14th seeded Blue Angels (47-16) have a challenging first round matchup with 3rd seeded Wallace State (56-4). With the first round matchups set to start on Tuesday, just the first three games made it into the books before weather would stop the fourth game between Angelina and Walters State in the top of the 7th inning and postpone the remaining games for the day until Wednesday. With the reset, KC and Wallace State will play today at 12:00pm. A win would see them playing again on Wednesday at 6:00pm while a loss would have them playing Wednesday at 4:00pm against either the winner or loser of the matchup between Grayson and Bossier Parish.
Expected to be in the lineup for the Blue Angels is South Central graduate and KC sophomore Sydnee Garrett who has been on a hot streak at the plate in the last month. Across 5 games in the Region 24 Tournament, Garrett batted .375 going 6-16 with 4 home runs, 5 runs scored and 8 RBI and in the final six games leading up to the Region 24 Tournament, Garrett was 8-17 with 5 home runs including a 3-home run game on April 30 with 7 runs scored and 8 RBI. Garrett was also the winning pitcher in the Championship game of the Region 24 Tournament, going 4 innings and not allowing a run on three hits and striking out six batters in the game.
