Four area high school girls track and field athletes have qualified for the IHSA 1A State Track Meet after turning in qualifying performances at the Newton 1A Sectional Meet.
Vandalia freshman thrower Hannah Brown finished second place in the Shot Put with a best throw of 10.41 meters to qualify.
Brownstown-St. Elmo sophomore hurdler Katie Berner finished in third place in the 300m Hurdles and turned in a qualifying time of 48.70 seconds to qualify for State.
Two South Central athletes competing for Patoka-South Central will compete at the State Track Meet. Junior runner Kyla Engel finished in second place in the 800m Run to qualify for State and junior thrower Brooke Cowger finished in second place in the Discus to return to the State meet after qualifying last year in the Shot Put.
All four girls will compete in the 1A State Prelims on Thursday, May 18 at Eastern Illinois University. The Finals of the State Track Meet will then be held on Saturday, May 20.
