From the National Weather Service in St. Louis—
Blowing dust has picked up across portions of southwest Illinois this afternoon. Northwest winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph at times will persist through 8 PM before diminishing. Winds have lofted fine particles of dust into the air over portions of northern Montgomery and possibly Fayette Counties. The dust is reducing visibilities to near zero causing a number of accidents on I-55. Be ready for a sudden drop in visibility to near zero. If you encounter blowing dust on the roadway or see it approaching, pull off the road as far as possible and put your vehicle in park.
