Michael “Mike” L. Boggs, 83, of Brownstown, Illinois, formerly of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 10, 2023, at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL with Pastor Joe Lawson officiating. Military rites will be held by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95, Vandalia, IL & Brownstown VFW Post #9770. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL. Memorials: Brownstown VFW Post #9770. He was born December 9, 1939, in Vandalia, IL, the son of Louis Thurman “Strawberry” & Dorothy Mary (Campbell) Boggs. He married Doris May McNear on September 22, 1982, in Vandalia, IL. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 3 years and the United States Army for 17 years, serving in Vietnam; was a Sergeant at the Vandalia Correctional Center, retiring after 20 years; enjoyed hunting, golf, and genealogy, he had books made with his genealogy research on the Boggs and Campbell families; attended Arm Prairie Church as a kid; and helped build the Northside Christian Church in Vandalia, IL.
He is survived by: Wife – Doris Boggs, Brownstown, IL; Daughter – Gail Boggs, Vandalia, IL; Step-Son – J. Kim Shanks, Vandalia, IL; Grandchildren – LaTisha Paslay & Jason, David Shanks & Amber, Kelsie Woodward and Kendra Woodward & Jason Craven; Great Grandchildren – Jalea & Curtis, Jarrett & Gabby, Audrey, Evan and Gavin.
Preceded in death by: His Parents; Step-Son – Richard D. “Dickie” Shanks; Brother – Thomas Boggs; and Sister – Janice Perkins.
