For the second season in a row, a member of the South Central Lady Cougars has reached the 1,000 career points mark. Entering the second half of the season on Monday night, Lady Cougars senior Brooklyn Garrett would be sitting at 982 points prior to the Lady Cougars dominating 74-16 win over Martinsville. Garrett would tally 11 points in the first half to get herself to 993 points. Then after getting two buckets in the third quarter, and South Central holding a 48-13 lead, Garrett would take a pass on the perimeter and knock down a three-pointer from the left wing at the 4:17 mark of the quarter to hit 1,000 points. After the game, Garrett talked about having some nerves in the first half but not realizing just how close she was until right before that second half three-pointer.
After the three-pointer, Garrett would add on 5 more points to reach 23 points for the game. Monday night’s game also marks the sixth game in the last seven that Garrett has scored 20 or more points for the Cougars as South Central has went 4-3 in that stretch. Garrett also becomes one of a large number of athletes in the junior and senior classes reaching 1,000 points despite missing out on a half of a season during the 2020-2021 school year due to COVID.
