Claude William “C.W.” “Bill” Carter, age 76, of St. Elmo, Illinois passed away at 7:53 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2022 at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2022 at Connection Church in St. Elmo with a one-hour viewing prior to the service. Tim Caraway will be officiating. C.W. was born on January 28, 1946 in Robinson, Illinois, the son of Wayne and Evelyn (Cole) Carter. He married Neva Jean Rhodes-Thompson on March 7, 2008 at Connection Church in St. Elmo, Illinois. C.W. was co-pastor at Lion of Judah Power Ministry in Vandalia and co-owner of Carter’s Plants and Produce in St. Elmo. He loved gardening, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. He was the happiest man and loved people. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Neva Carter of St. Elmo; daughters, Hope Dennis (husband Joe) of Robinson and Linda Hood (husband Dan) of St. Elmo; siblings, Sheila Wilson (husband Bob), Bruce Carter (wife Edie), and Leon Carter; grandchildren, Jarad, Caleb, Jeremiah, Jaira; great-grandchildren, Jacie, Demi, Breely, Maesyn, Carter; brother-in-law, Rocky Kennedy; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Evelyn Carter; three sons, Jason Carter, Demmy Flewellen, Ed Flewellen; and sister, Martha Kennedy.
