The IHSA has selected a new permanent home for the High School Football State Championship games.
A their regular meeting on Wednesday, the IHSA Board of Directors met for its regularly scheduled meeting and approved a hosting contract for Hancock Stadium on the campus of Illinois State University in Bloomington-Normal for the next 5 seasons.
IHSA selected Hancock Stadium over bids by Saluki Stadium in Carbondale and Huskie Stadium in DeKalb. They also selected it over the University of Illinois’ bid to host in 2024, 2026, and 2028 at Memorial Stadium.
This will return the IHSA State Football Championships to the location that was long its home and was at the very beginning. Hancock Stadium hosted all rounds of the championship from 1974 to 1979, rounds 1 through 4 from ‘80 to ‘84 and all rounds again from 1985 to 1998. Over the past decade the state championships have rotated between Champaign and DeKalb.
