Fayette County officially has a new Resident Circuit Judge as Joshua Morrison was sworn into the position on Friday afternoon. Morrison served as the county’s States Attorney for 10 years or two and a half terms prior to his victory during the November General Election which was followed by Morrison taking his official oath and completing his robing ceremony on Friday. After the ceremony, Morrison said it was an honor to be elected by the people of the county to take the next step in his legal career.
Several resident circuit judges and associate judges from area counties and the Fourth Judicial Circuit as well as Illinois Supreme Court Justice David Overstreet were in attendance for the ceremony. Having so many of his peers in attendance, Morrison described the moment as “surreal.”
Morrison will get right to work on Monday, but will spend most of his time away from the county for a period of time due to a conflict period as cases he has been a part of work their way through the system.
Morrison received his oath of office from Justice Overstreet and officially received his robe from his wife, Brooke Morrison, during the ceremony.
