Jimmie C. “Jim” Bowen, 75, of Vandalia, IL, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at SBL Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, December 04, 2022 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia with Rev. Robert Francisco officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia with military rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95, Vandalia and Brownstown V.F.W. Post #9770. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00-3:00 PM, Sunday, December 04, 2022 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to SBL FCH Long Term Care or Fayette County Hospice. Jimmie Charles Bowen was born on December 19, 1946, in Fairman, IL, the son of Glenn and Genevieve (Bryant) Bowen. He married Mary Lynn Williams on February 14, 1970; together they raised two children and celebrated nearly 50 years of marriage before her passing on August 10, 2019.
Jim was the owner/operator of the family business, Bowen Oil; where he was also a fuel transporter. After his retirement, Jim began working as an attendant for the Super Wash in Vandalia. He had an avid love for golfing, Cardinal baseball, NASCAR, and Westerns. Jim cherished the time spent with his family and friends.
He was a proud United States Army Veteran and member of Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95, where he would often assist with military honors of his fallen comrades. Jim was also a devout member of the First Christian Church of Vandalia.
Mr. Bowen is survived by his daughter, Jamie & husband Jason Vicich of Decatur; son, Alan Bowen & wife Krystine of Charleston; granddaughter, Anna Lynn; brothers, Leon Bowen & wife Patricia and Dean Bowen & wife Cheryl; sisters, Carole Guetersloh, Barbara Snyder, Sharon & husband Ron Thomason, Susan & husband Steve Murfin; sister-in-law, Ann Bowen; and many nieces & nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers Gerald Ray Bowen and Robert “Bob” Bowen.
