Vandalia High School junior Conner McCall and Altamont High School senior Avery Jahraus begin play in the IHSA 1A State Golf Tournament at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington on Friday morning.
McCall will be looking to improve on his 4th place individual finish from last year’s State Tournament that he won while also being a member of the Vandals Team State Champion squad. McCall will be playing the front 9 to begin play on Friday, teeing off from the first hole at 10:36am along with Wesley Wilson of Amboy, Ashten Cafarelli of St. Joseph-Ogden and Liam Lodding of Harvest Christian Academy, all individual advancers from Sectionals.
Jahraus is making his first ever trip the State Tournament in his senior year after being one of three golfers advancing from the Effingham St. Anthony Sectional after a 5-way playoff. Jahraus will be playing the back 9 of Prairie Vista first, teeing off on the 10th hole at 9:33am along with the other two playoff advancers from the St. Anthony Sectional, Aidan McFadden of Anna-Jonesboro and Kollin Kelsey of Mt. Carmel.
McCall and Jahraus will need to score in the top 40 of individuals not a part of a Top 8 advancing team in order to move on to Round 2 of the tournament to be played on Saturday, also at Prairie Vista Golf Course.
