South Central baseball traveled to Southern Illinois on Saturday and picked up two wins, beating Cobden and Agape Christian. In Game One, Callaway Smith and Coen West combined for a no-hitter as the Cougars beat Cobden 11-0. Smith went the first four innings, allowing no hits or walks, and striking out 6. West then came in to pitch the 5th and allowed no hits or walks and struck out two of the three batters he faced. Chase Thompson had a big game at the plate going 4-4 with an RBI and 4 runs scored.
In their second game of the day, the Cougars would come out on top in a back-and-forth battle. South Central got on the board first with a run in the top of the second as Andrew Magnus scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead. Agape Christian tied it up at 1-1 in the bottom of 3rd and would push their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the 4th. South Central would tie the game in the top of the 5th when Trevan Sidwell would score from third base after Aiden Dodson would reach base by an error on the shortstop and then Thompson would score from third base on an error by the catcher. The Cougars would take the lead in the inning on a steal of home by Dodson to make it 4-3. After a scoreless sixth inning, South Central would tack onto their lead in the top of the seventh inning when a double Dodson would score Thompson and a sac fly from Anthony Buonaura would score Dodson to push the Cougar lead to 6-3. Agape Christian would add one run in the bottom of the 7th, but the Cougars would hold on for the 6-4 win. South Central is now 11-4 on the season and will get a chance to avenge one of their losses on the year, when they face Altamont at home on Tuesday.
