Margie Dean Carter, 86, of Vandalia formerly of Shobonier, passed away at 2:10 PM, Thursday, August 11, 2022 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Effingham.
Graveside Services and Interment will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia with Pastor Nathan Brands officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Sweetbriar Retirement Home. Margie Dean Dubiel was born September 03, 1935, in Vandalia, the daughter of Frank and Estella (Howard) Dubiel. She married John Lloyd Carter on November 03, 1957 at the Ramsey Christian Church; together they shared 59 years of marriage before his passing in March of 2017. Margie retired in 1996 from the USDA Farm Service Agency formerly known as Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) Office in Vandalia where she handled accounts payable. Margie was a true St. Louis Cardinals fan; so much so she would keep a scorebook at home while watching the games on tv.
Mrs. Carter is survived by her son, John (Jamie) Carter of New Albany, MS; daughters, Marsha (Rick) Sasse of Vandalia, Linda (Dennis) Speerly of Millington, and Rae Lynn (Mitch) Koehler of Brownstown; grandchildren, Michael (Tammy) Sasse of Brownstown, Matthew (Sarah) Sasse of Vandalia, Daniel (Sarah) Speerly of Sandwich, Andrew (Jennifer) Speerly of Millington, Stephanie (John) Stout of Sycamore, Zachary (Madison) Koehler of Brownstown, Amanda (fiancé Cole Gordon) Koehler of Iuka; great-grandchildren, Corie (Cody) Smith of Altamont, Hunter (Annika) Sasse of Pittsburg, PA, Shelby Sasse and Addie Sasse of Brownstown, Logan Sasse of Vandalia, Kassandra Speerly and Carter Speerly of Sandwich, Bayley Stout, Blake Stout, and Bryce Stout of Sycamore, Zayne Koehler of Brownstown; great-great granddaughters, Grace Smith, Maddie Smith, and Avery Smith of Altamont; brothers, Clifford (Sharon) Dubiel of Kingman, AZ and Allen Dubiel of Alexander, AK; sisters, Norma Gable of Shobonier, Nancy Pickel of Bryant, AK, Carol Long of Somonauk; sisters-in-law, Iris (Lindell) Martie of Ramsey, and Carolyn (Bob) Reynolds of Springfield, and Vicki Dubiel of Rock Falls; many nieces and nephews.
