(Chicago, IL) — Illinois is receiving vaccines from the federal government to combat the ongoing outbreak of the monkeypox virus. The state Department of Public Health will initially receive nearly 13-hundred doses of the vaccine while the Chicago Department of Public Health will be receiving a separate initial allocation of 32-hundred doses. Monkeypox is a disease that doesn’t spread easily between people without close contact and the threat of the virus remains low in the U.S.
