The Vandalia City Council held a bit of an odd meeting on Monday.
There were only four Aldermen on hand for the meeting. So, without a quorum the council was not able to take up any voting matters. But, there were several items for discussion.
One issue that was discussed by Vandalia Mayor Rick Gottman was gas prices. Mayor Gottman confirmed that he had invited all the gas station owners in the community to the meeting, but none were on hand.
Audio PlayerMayor Gottman did confirm the city received letters from the Pilot Company and from the Illinois Fuel and Retail Association. Mayor Gottman says that he has found in his recent travels in the Metro East that most prices were lining up with the City of Vandalia’s. And, that is reflected in the area gas prices, as well, as the prices in other communities seem to have caught up with Vandalia. According to gasbuddy.com, the price in Vandalia ranges from $4.99 to $5.19 per gallon this morning. Effingham—which had been around 40 cents cheaper—now has prices ranging from $4.99 to $5.19 per gallon. Gasbuddy.com shows the price range in Greenville is $5.09 to $5.19 per gallon and in Pana is ranges from $5.09 to $5.39 per gallon.
