Samuel “Sam” O. Kistler, 72, of Vandalia, Illinois, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Fayette County Hospital ER in Vandalia, IL.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, with Pastor Doug Wodtka officiating. Burial will follow at Griffith Cemetery, Rural Brownstown, IL, with Military Rites by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95, Vandalia, IL and Brownstown VFW Post #9770. Visitation will be held from 6-8 on Monday, April 18, 2022, at Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL and 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Memorials: Brownstown FFA. He was born November 22, 1949, in Vandalia, IL, the son of Carl & Florence Dean Kistler. Married Joann Agnes Karban on June 3, 2017 at Overcup Baptist Church. Sam farmed his entire life; he raised hogs and cattle; worked for South Central FS for 45 years; US Army Veteran and later a School Bus Driver for the Brownstown School District. Sam was a member of Vandalia Moose Lodge #1447 and American Legion Post #95, Vandalia, IL.
He is survived by: Wife – Joann Kistler, Vandalia, IL; Daughters – Amy Clarey & Tony, Shelbyville, IL and Tonya Christian & Loren, Assumption, IL; Step-Sons – Ronald Strong & Tina, Collinsville, IL and Robin Strong & Rhonda, Glen Carbon, IL; Grandchildren – Austin, Jacob, Alleson, Adam, Josh, Lindsey and Lainey; Great Grand Child – Kahli; and Sister – Mila Dush, Vandalia, IL.
Preceded in death by: His Parents; and 2 Half Brothers – David and John.
