Audrey L. Matthews, age 81 of Mulberry Grove, passed away Friday, March 18, 2022, at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2022, at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at the Donnell – Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Interment will be in McInturff Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
Audrey Lucille, the daughter of Clarence Leonard and Ruby Lucille (Swafford) Nelson, was born November 14, 1940, in Fayette County. She grew up on the farm and attended Halls Grove School. Audrey then attended Greenville High School. She worked for DeMoulin Brothers for many years as a seamstress.
Audrey loved spending time with her family, especially all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching her Hallmark movie specials.
Surviving is her son Greyson Hueter of Highland, Illinois and daughter Karen Blankenship of Greenville. She is also survived by a sister Melba Grotts of Mulberry Grove. Loving grandmother of 7: Ashley (Jerell) White, Josh (Michell) Nicolaides, Brandon Hueter, Kyle (Cindy) Hueter, Kayla (Frank) Hager, Zoe (Adam) Dachroeden, and Levi (Claire) Hueter and many others on the Matthews and Maroon side as well as great-grandchildren 12 and 1 more on the way.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, son Gaylan Hueter in 2017, grandson Jason Kious, and siblings Elvin Nelson, Donald (Buddy) Nelson, and Larry Nelson. Sisters-in-law Nancy Nelson, Joyce Nelson, and Judy Nelson, and brother-in-law Jerry Grotts.
