Vandalia Attorney Troy Payne is entering the race for Fayette County Resident Circuit Judge. Payne will be a Republican candidate in the June 28th Illinois Primary. Payne says he feels his experience as an attorney would serve him well in the position as Judge.
Payne has been working with the Law Group in Vandalia and Effingham since 2000 and has been a partner in the firm since 2004. Payne has practiced primarily in litigation. He has tried criminal felony jury trials along with civil jury trials throughout his 22 years of practice. Payne has also tried numerous bench trials throughout southern Illinois in the First, Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Judicial Circuits. And, he has also appeared and argued appeals before the Fifth Appellate Court in Mt. Vernon. Payne talks about the big difference between being an attorney and being a judge.
And, Payne has a solid response when asked “Why should I vote for you?”
Payne and his wife Christina and their four children live in Vandalia. Payne will face Fayette County State’s Attorney Joshua Morrison in the Republican Primary. Payne, Morrison and Democrat candidate Marc Kelly are all vying to replace Judge Don Sheafor, who is retiring at the end of his term in December.
