The Illinois State Board of Education on Tuesday officially informed the Vandalia School District they have returned to “Fully Recognized” status.
In a letter from State Superintendent of Education Dr. Carmen Ayala to Vandalia Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Garrison it starts off by stating “The purpose of this communication is to inform you that your district’s recognition status has been restored to Fully Recognized.” The letter goes onto state that this decision was made following the CDC revising their recommendations on masking in schools and Governor Pritzker then removing the school mask mandate.
Vandalia Schools had been under the “On Probation” status since December 23rd for not following the state’s mask mandate but instead following their own local control plan that called for masking when cases reached a certain level.
