State Representative Blaine Wilhour talks a little more about the issues at the Vandalia Correctional Center. Representative Wilhour was in Vandalia on Saturday for the annual Fayette County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner. He says they are stepping up their efforts to get clear answers.
Earlier this month, Governor J.B. Pritzker’s Press Secretary responded to the issue of an Illinois Department of Corrections document that has been floating around social media regarding the Vandalia Correctional Center.
The document that has been shared on social media and has since been shared in several other circles outlines a plan that would close the Vandalia Correctional Center but would leave the Vandalia Work Camp in operation. The document goes into detail on cost savings after this would occur, which was said in the document to be June 30th. On February 14th, Gov Pritzker’s Press Secretary Jordan Abudayyeh—responding to emails from Cromwell Media-Vandalia—says via email “The images that are circulating are from a draft document that was put together for discussion within IDOC. It was not something that reflected input from stakeholders, including the Governor’s Office.”
Meanwhile, Representative Wilhour joined with several colleagues to send out a letter on Friday requesting a meeting with the I-DOC Director.
