The Vandalia School District has been under its local COVID-19 mitigation plan for just over two weeks now and on Wednesday at 2:30pm, the Vandalia School Board and legal counsel will be meeting with the Illinois State Board of Education via a Zoom meeting. The meeting is the first step taken by ISBE when a school district is not following a statewide plan set forth by ISBE and the Illinois Department of Public Health. The Vandalia School Board, Superintendent of School Dr. Jennifer Garrison and legal counsel for the district will have the opportunity to state its case and present the local plan the district is using for local mitigation. At this time, the Vandalia School District is not on probation, but as of the last update on December 15, ISBE has 8 schools or districts placed on probation with 7 of them being recommended for nonrecognition. The 7 schools are parochial schools, with the one school not being recommended for nonrecognition at this point being the Hutsonville School District who the Vandalia School District in recent months joined as part of an effort to fight for local control.
During tomorrow’s Zoom meeting, there will be a time for public comment, but it will only be for those who have pre-submitted a request to comment by the 2:30pm Tuesday deadline. For those who wish to view the meeting, you can do so via the Vandalia School District’s YouTube Channel.
